Music education at Central-Denison is based on the nine national music standards with singing being the most emphasized. Another standard is playing instruments (recorders, keyboards, choir chimes, melody bells, ukuleles, and classroom rhythm instruments such as drums, maracas, tambourines and instruments from other countries to name a few. Students can begin to learn an orchestra instrument in 4th grade and a band instrument in 5th grade. Other national standards stressed are analyzing music, perfoming, reading and notating music, and connections to various cultures.
Two concerts a year are put on by our students. The Christmas concert features our kindergarten-2nd grade students. The spring concert features our 3rd through 5th grade students.
Students in 4th and 5th grade have the opportunity to join the Lake Geneva Show Choir and sing with students from all three elementary schools. Students in 2nd -5th grade have the opportunity to audition for A.C.C.E.N.T. (ACombined Chorus Engaging Notable Talent). These two choirs are offered through the Gifted and Talented program in our district.
Technology is used extensively in the music classroom with tools such as the smartboard, animated listening maps, and electronic music books.
